Individual Supported Employment refers to placement
and follow-up services necessary to help persons with developmental
disabilities obtain and continue employment in a community business or
industry. This may include: Job development, Creation of work
opportunities, Support to the employee’s supervisors and/or peer
workers to enable them to support the person on the job, On-the-job
training, Job coaching and Modification of work site or tasks.
This service is available for all adults with developmental disabilities, regardless of severity of disability.
o Coordinate with: transportation and individuals home site schedule o New hire orientation / testing o Provide intensive onsite instruction / education o To the individual o To the co-workers o To the supervisor o Develop natural supports o Continuous evaluation – modifying job-site, task, and supports an necessary o Advocating / problem solving / crisis management o Identify stabilization o Develop fade schedule o Continuous communication- families, and the employer o Coordinate referrals to community resources and case management o Develop follow-up support plan

o Travel training o Interview skills o Grooming / hygiene / professional appearance o Teach self advocacy o Assistance obtaining required job items – i.e.Food handlers’ permit, First Aid card etc. o Sample various work sites – tours o Job shadow – trial work experience o Adaptive technology planning o Develop portfolio / resume o Apprise of job clubs o • Assist completing job application
